Pretty sure most parents can agree that getting their kids to eat more vegetables is an on-going adventure. Sometimes they love broccoli and the next day they say "I don't like that" or they utterly refuse it every time. Here are some tips I have tried with my four and six year old:
- Hide those veggies in a smoothie! You can add frozen spinach, cauliflower, greens powder, zucchini, sweet potatoes, and more! I have even seen convenient fruit & veggie smoothie packets (read the ingredient list to make sure there is no sugar added). Pro tip: Add a banana to hide any veggie flavor and help the consistency. - Keep giving them the ones they refuse. As I mentioned before kids will change their minds regularly and their taste buds are changing all the time as well. If they see you eating them as well it can be encouraging :)
- Eat the rainbow. Try to give them a couple of different colors at each meal and try new ones occasionally (maybe as a fun family adventure). Variety is key!
- When making sauces, chilli, or things like soup you can easily sneak in some vegetables for added nutrition. Spinach is a great one to use in those instances. I like to add zucchini into my meat loaf (recipe HERE).
- Something I started recently that my kids love is buying the prepared veggie trays at the store and because they aren't made by mom they are more appealing I guess lol. This has helped them try celery and raw broccoli.
I hope these tips have been helpful! If you have any tips that work for your family, I would love for you to share!
Here's to making eating vegetables fun and exciting!
