Is Intermittent Fasting Safe While Breastfeeding?

The short answer is yes! It's important to dive in a little further though....

First, it's important to understand what intermittent fasting is not. It is not designed to be a way to eat less. It's time-restricted eating - meaning you will eat what your body needs within a certain time frame. What this allows is your body to have a period of digestive rest. While it doesn't have to focus on digestion, it can do other things like help burn fat, heal, and cell renewal.

It's very important that if you have never done intermittent fasting prior to getting pregnant, you wait to start until your milk supply has been established. Then you can start with 12 hours of fasting, which could mean fasting from 7 pm to 7 am. As your body adjusts and you make sure you are getting enough fuel to maintain your milk supply, you can increase up to 15 hours with guidance from your doctor and Coach. I know many clients in the FASTer Way who have been successful at integrating intermittent fasting while breastfeeding.
